Running Accomplishments:

I just started xc this year.  I am in junior high but run on the high school team.  I'm the only one in my family that runs, and i love it! my best 5k this year was 21:13.  I ran that at the region meet and took 11th place.

Short-Term Running Goals:

My next short-term running goal... hm... well next year on track and cross country, the girls my age will be running on the high school team, right now i'm the only freshman on my team, my next goal is to beat kelsie bird.  She is really fast but she is not getting the kind of training that i am because she is just running for the junior high this year.

Long-Term Running Goals:

I would really like to run a marathon someday.  I might even want to do a half with my aunt.

Today was the Region meet.  It was at Springville  (home).  I did really well i thought. This was my best time, even though you can't really compare times in cross country because its different everytime, but i still did really well.  I ended up getting 11th place out of TONS of people.  I'm not sure how many but there were alot.  I'm in 9th grade.  I ran in the jv race and i think next time i will run in varsity.

taking a break. that's probley not what i should be doing cause i really don't want to get out of shape again, but we don't have school today so my team is taking it off toO! i'll probley run on sunday instead.  my new goal is to run 25-30 miles a week. i hope i can do that. i just want to have something to work for.

today was the first day of practice in along time. my team decided to get back in shape again for our last meet in california! so... we ran 4 miles really slow.

Hi Kristie,

I was new for a minute. I got kicked off the newest members list quickly since so many people have been joining. It's great to have the support of so many people at so many levels. I'm not one to give advice yet, but I love the advice that comes my way. I think you will like it too! One bit of advice I can give is if you don't have firefox on your computer you need to download it from this page, (right under newest members box). I couldn't add things in until I installed that. Maybe that will help you out.

Today was a hard work out at xc! first we ran 2 miles warm up, up hills. it was really hard, even for the warm up, cause it was a 2 mile hill that gradually went up, it hurt, The wheather was pretty good, just it was a little cold and it burnt my throat.  Then once we ran 2 miles to our spot... we ran 2 400's up a way STEEP hill!! it was soooo steep! but we are training for a meet in december that is all up hill.  My coach challenged us to do another 400 up the same spot, i took the challenge along with 2 others.  Then we did a cool down the same way we came up, but good thing we got to go downhill for the cool down.  It added up to about 5 miles.

Today i wasn't even supposed to run, since yesterday was freakin hard.  I was going to go play basketball with a couple of friends instead (even though i can't play i suck!) but they ended up not showing up and i already had clothes on and felt good so i ran a couple miles.  I might go play basketball later tonight.

Early morning basketball tryouts... didn't make it.  They cut 5 more people and i was one of them.  the 1st cut they cut half.  there was like 50.  then they had 25.  they cut more and then there were 18 and they only needed 11.  they cut 5 and i was one.  oh well... at least i tried.  now i can't regret trying.  i haven't gone to xc all week.  i'm glad i didn't make the freshman team because then i would have to give up running and that would suck!! so i'm glad!! today i was really sad, i stayed home from school i didn't feel good.  i went running with my xc team after school... i love running! it made me feel much better! running is seriously a stress reliever!! i love it!

Today at cross country, we were supposed to go like 5 miles.  Me and my friend, stephanie, got running and talking, no walking =], and we accidently ran 6.8 miles.  haha i ran extra!! but yeah i ran with my petometer and it said 6.8 but it didn't feel like that much!

We are training for footlocker in california.  so we are working hard.  we ran 6 miles up the canyon.  it was good weather! perfect for running!

Hi Kristie,

I started running when I was twelve. Not only am I the only runner in my family but also the only athlete. I am now 30 and still running. Best of luck to you in your track season (I assume you are running track). I would make sure you get out there daily and get some miles in. You will thank yourself when track starts if you have a good base.

hey. Thanks for the advice. Yeah i think that's a good idea. I've been kinda a slacker lately! i need to keep running though. My coach told me to take a 2 week break from running until indoor track season starts, is that a bad idea?

Today wasn't a good race day.  I went with my team to california to race in this race.  We got there 2 days before the race, and all we did was eat junk food, that of course isn't good for a run.  I also was crampy and achy.  I tried to stay with the top runners, that didn't work for very long.  I think i also started out too fast.  my first mile time was around 5:30.  That was too fast.  Then my second mile was areound 12:00's from there i went downhill... my overall time was 22:42.  I think next time i need to slow down my first couple miles.  I think i did ok compared to my team mates.  I'm the only freshman on my team and i beat most of the seniors.  So i think its ok.

Congratulations on your race - a 5:30 first mile is tremendous, too bad you couldn't hold off the fatigue. Good luck in your track season!

Holy smokes! You have a lot of potential, Kristie. Jr. High runner? Wow! Keep up your training and soon you won't be fading at all on those last miles--and you'll be winning all your races!

When you say that the 2nd mile was 12:00, did you actually mean 7:00 or something? I can't figure it out.

thanks. I actually didn't get 40th place it was more like 60th i just found out... =[ but yeah. sorry. the 2nd mile was around 7 minutes. that is so bad.. i wish i didn't start out so fast. thanks for the comments.

Well, Sasha always says that if you run your first mile at a certain speed, than a lot of your body is ready to do the whole race at that speed. I really think that if you are consistent with your training, 5:30 could become your average pace--maybe even faster because you are so young.

I decided not to go 2 weeks without running.  I couldn't handle it anymore... I wanted to run a shorter distance fast.  I went 3 miles, but since it snowed for the last 3 days i coudn't go too fast.  I probabley did 2 fast and 1 slow.  It was really, really, cold outside.  I wore alot of layers.  I felt good for running since i haven't ran for a week.

I would suggest a more formal program. Six days a week alternating hard and easy. Try to get one longer run in each week. I know it's hard to get into this kind of routine, but dramatic improvement is possible year to year if you follow a serious year round program. Since you seem very interested in improving your xc time, a combination of speed and distance training is required. I am just now starting to see the benefits of 10 months of training. I repeat just starting to see improvement. Getting to the next level requires a true commitment. Good luck.

Sorry i haven't replied sooner!! Thanks for the suggestions! I should get back into shape sometime soon i think!! I think next week i will do what you said, and i'll get off the slacker mode! My indoor track season doesn't start until Jan. 2nd. I will definately follow your suffestions! thanks!
